EMDR y prevención del estrés postraumático

Siguen pasando los días, y seguimos escondidos del peligro de contagiarnos o de contagiar a los demás, privados de nuestra vida normal en prácticamente todo, de la libertad de poder decidir y hacer muchas cosas, convencidos, porque no queda otra, de que así estamos salvaguardando nuestro bien, el bien de las personas a las que queremos, y el bien común.

Nos vimos sorprendidos por esta pandemia insólita en el mundo avanzado en el que vivimos, agresiva y voraz, y desde el primer momento el shock ha demandado de nosotros poner todo nuestro esfuerzo en el afrontamiento, en un terreno desconocido para todos, en el que nadie sabía qué hacer, ni cómo, ni cuándo…

Con muy pocas certezas, y con muchas incertidumbres acechando todos los días, con amenazas constantes y que se hacían cada vez más reales a nuestra condición física, a nuestra limitación de contacto familiar y social, a nuestro modo de vida, a nuestro trabajo, a todo lo que normalmente nos acompaña y nos genera seguridad y fortaleza en nuestra identidad. 

La cronicidad de esta situación está pesando cada vez más en esa forzosa capacidad de adaptación,  que, gracias a nuestra condición humana, traemos «de serie». 

Todos los momentos de susto, miedo, incredulidad, incertidumbre, confusión, sobreinformación, rabia, tristeza, inseguridad, que llevamos acumulados y que seguimos sumando día a día, y su más o menos adecuada gestión a nivel emocional, pueden ir dejando también un coste, que, si no vamos pagando según se va produciendo, acumulará una deuda de desgaste psíquico que nuestra cabeza se cobrará de golpe cuando dé por sentado que todo ha vuelto a ser estable y normal…

En efecto, la posible instalación de una sintomatología postraumática es muy posible dadas las circunstancias vividas, y las que todavía quedan por vivir, que desde luego fáciles no van a ser, y que seguramente van a exigir todavía más sacrificio y van a suponer más pérdidas.

Hablo de una manera objetiva, sin olvidarme en absoluto de todo lo bueno que seguimos teniendo y que todos los días actuamos para sentirnos bien y compensar todo esto: alegría, esperanza, motivación, iniciativa, capacidad creativa, juego, deporte, vinculación…

Es precisamente ese sobreesfuerzo mental y corporal el que es importante que vayamos gestionando a nivel psíquico día a día, reconociendo y aceptando y dejando estar las emociones, expresándolas, compartiéndolas, o descargándolas en solitario, pero no evitándolas ni negándolas. 

Admitir y seguir sosteniendo lo negativo, compensar con lo que nos hace sentir bien. Esa es la mejor manera de ayudar a nuestro sistema para no acumular ninguna deuda traumática que luego pretenda cobrarnos, y sin previo aviso…

La técnica del EMDR, reconocida como una de las más eficaces a la hora de prevenir y curar el estrés postraumático, en su nivel más leve de estimulación bilateral hemisférica, el auditivo, demuestra cómo se puede ir desensibilizando y gestionando el impacto negativo corporal, emocional y cognitivo de situaciones similares a la que estamos viviendo.

También nos ayuda a ir fortaleciendo nuestro nivel de tolerancia emocional en el día a día, para que nada quede aislado y bloqueado, sin poder procesarse.

Por todo ello, y pensando en mis pacientes, y en todos los que no lo son, comparto con vosotros dos audios elaborados por mí, de desensibilización con EMDR, como herramienta para ayudarnos a seguir fuertes en todo esto, y como prevención a medio y largo plazo.

No quiero dejar de señalar, sin embargo, que no son en ningún momento sustitutivos de una psicoterapia como las que hacemos desde este enfoque integrador, en casos en los que la sintomatología sea más intensa y aguda.
